John Umstead, CPA

John Umstead has comprehensive experience in accounting, financial operations, financial planning and analysis, treasury management, and capital markets spanning from clinical-stage through commercial-stage. Mr. Umstead has served as the Chief Financial Officer of Slate Medicines since May 2026. Prior to joining Slate, Mr. Umstead was the Chief Financial Officer of G1 Therapeutics, Inc., a publicly traded commercial-stage oncology company, which was acquired by Danish drugmaker Pharmacosmos. Prior to G1 Therapeutics, Mr. Umstead worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP advising clients ranging from small private companies to large publicly traded corporations on complex accounting and financial reporting matters. Prior to PwC, Mr. Umstead spent five years in commercial banking. Mr. Umstead earned a Master of Accounting and a BA from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a certified public accountant in the State of North Carolina.
